Dude I like a nice steak as much as the next guy, but common: you're thinking only in terms of the cows on your farm, and not considering the whole production chain, which includes the feed.

You feed animals with plants. A cow requires like 8kg of plants to grow 1kg of cow. The "plants" in question are mostly beans, corn and oats - grassfed is still just a minority of sales on the market unfortunatley. So that's food people can eat. Obviously it's more energy efficient to use 8kg of beans and oats as food than to give it to a cow, and get 1kg of steak to use as food. And we're not even taking into acount water usage, or methane emissions.

This is basic ecology, trophic levels and that crap. Flipping off veganfags, and blaming the Jew for good measure isn't gonna cut it as an argument, satisfying though it may be.

Idk, beans and oats/rice/corn was pretty much what I was raised on since we were dirt poor. I suppose it would depend on what else one eats, like we ate lots of eggs and dairy and raised our own chickens too, and of course goat when we could afford it. But as a basic component of one's diet, I think you could do worse than beans and grains, that's already what most people eat in poorer countries.

I think a lot of vegans in the west just eat soi-meat and continue on eating crap, lots of sodas and sugar and stuff like that.

This was already mentioned, it's NOT plants humans can't eat. Ideally, it is - grass and stuff. But today, the industry mostly uses beans and grains people CAN eat. Not just the debris.

Now the debris is an interesting point, because do we count the environmental impact of, say, corn, when we're only using what's essentially a bi-product? In a way, it's part of the total production chain, but also it's a bi-product that would have been thrown away otherwise. A problem when doing these kinds of calculations, which is exactly why one should doubt any numbers coming from environmental scientists, because these kind of personal judgements are always involved and it's not clear from the numbers themselves how the scientists reasoned.
(That is, don't discard the studies, just think about what the numbers mean carefully. I work with this stuff if you can't tell...)

Right now, veganism is offered as a solution, and it carries it's own problems. You mention kale, and I've personally studied qunioa, another fad among westerners and especially vegans, and both the monocultures, rainforest deforestation and the negative economic impacts on the population. It's fucked. Pluriculture is great, but is it enough? I'm trying to learn more about this shit and set up a proper permaculture garden... but that doesn't deal with animal argriculture. Chickens, yea, and I have experience with that, but goats? Cows? Idk man... I wouldn't know how to do it. More local, more free range, better quality, no monocultures, etc. That's the basics at least.
