Our deficits can be quite easily traced back to the 1980s/Reagan shift in taxation (that also coincided with when the middle class started getting btfo both economically and politically). The super rich have been accumulating their massive windfalls ever since then and many of them reinvesting that (as the donor class) into entrenching their outsized political power, controlling both major US political parties. The way to stop this and reverse it is some campaign finance constitutional amendments and a massive rethinking of our tax code

When the rich pay more they cut costs to compensate. Cutting costs ends up hurting the lower classes, not the rich. If you tried to take away their liberty to cut costs you'll end up destroying your national industry.
