I like Mexico, and if the appropriate cultural, economic, and governmental revolutions occur, would love to see an extra 26 states in the Union when we add the other Estados Unidos.

Aside from that, they presently represent a cautionary tale of everything that America isn’t. They first became a monarchy, then flirted with unitary systems of government and invested faith in strongmen/caudillos (picking third rate Napoleons instead of George Washingtons), finally established what was basically the Spanish United States under Juarez, got invaded again but by a different Western power, then brought another caudillo to power, had a revolution, flirted with corporatism, socialism, and technocracy, and other State-derived solutions to problems until the modern day.

They’re successful for a Latin American country, and their history is similar to that of the rest of Latin America, but until the culture, economy, and government changes, they will remain behind the US of A.

From what I remember everyone was in (((debt))) after the independence war. They wanted to institute a congress and have an emperor (probably because of muh enlightenment). The congress never did its job. When Iturbide left the throne and exiled himself to Italy, he wrote a letter stating that hed return as a soldier and not as an emperor, regardless of the form of government. The congress, naturally, declared him a traitor (dafuq? he dindu nuffin) and gave an order to execute him if he stepped on Mexican soil on the very day he set sail.
I'm thinking the corruption is part of every govt today. Look at Europe, for example, at the immigration policies. As for us, as far as I know, it manifests itself as stealing public funds. Maybe because of the supply chain of those funds, dunno.

I remember him being demonized in public education for selling the northern territory of La Mesilla to the US, when, in fact, the US gave Mexico 5 (five) choices as to the purchase of land. Four options ranging from somwhwere in the middle of Sinaloa northwards to La Mesilla, the fifth one being taking it by force. We had just fought a war of liberation and were still paying its debt.

We only dislike Mexicans that choose to invade. They disrespect our borders, our laws, and our culture. We like the Mexicans that stay in Mexico. Just imagine that if over the course of 4 decades, your region of Japan had become 40% Mexican. You wouldn't appreciate them either.
