Can confirm. Own a merkur and it's my backup to a very solid, heavy metal safety razor. I bought discount safety razors off amazon, $5 for 500, and have yet to cut myself. The shave is WAY smoother than any Mach 3.

If you're going to go the safety razor route be careful where you shop, a lot of the places that sell that stuff are run by faggot hipsters. Get them on Amazon or buy direct. Also get a "sample pack" of the blades to figure out which one works for you.
Keep in mind you need to take your time using them, chances are you're going to cut up your face until you figure out how to use it. Personally I didn't care for using one and went back to cartridges, but some people love safety razors. I'd suggest trying out the cheaper items before going full retard and getting fancy lather brushes and elegant shave handles because there's a decent chance you won't like a DE razor.
Don't buy into the single edge meme, those things are for professional barbers and take significant skill to use.
