Not sure why people would get mad about killing Templars. Again, I've never played the early Assassin's Creed games, but wouldn't most leftists see Templars as le evil colonizers and the Hashashins as the noble people fighting for their homeland?
I've played the most recent two, Origins and Odyssey, which a friend bought for me because he knows I love the ancient world. I tried Odyssey first since it was newer, and it seemed to be fairly well developed in terms of history. It is suspiciously diverse for Ancient Greece, with many Greeks as dark as Dravidians and even one clearly black girl. I haven't tried the Egypt game beyond the intro yet.
