Money is an efficient way for people to exchange goods with one another, which is a requirement for western countries that have 10s of millions of people. Money is also used as a source of power; it's no coincidence that the people in power are also rich; take away their money and they'll still hold the power. You could kill them but that would also kill the system that was put into place, which would cause millions to die. Socialism addresses a few of these issues but offers no solution to them
