Section 1: Total US Population and The Labor Participation Rate
327.1 million people- that's our best guess as to the total population of the United States. The United Nations estimates differently and has decided that our total population is more like 326.77 million. No big deal- right? What's half a million people between friends?
Why the discrepancy?
Our methods for counting people are not perfect. The Unites States Census relies on a system of self-reporting. It only works if people are honest and forthcoming about the number of people in their households. But what about the people who lie? There are lots of reasons to be dishonest on such a survey. Let's say that person is subletting his room to apartment to his five brothers, breaking the law, and doesn't want the landlord to find out- would he be honest on such a survey? Of course not!
My mother texted me today that she was scared because she actually agreed with trump's speech. He offered the Democrats a good deal and they said no while they stick their heads in the sand of a push poll and lose public opinion. They have had many outs during this shutdown to give trump his very meager wall money and they still won't accept. They really don't know how to win.

Section 2: Illegal Immigration
Getting information out of people for the census was hard enough when all they were allowed to ask was 'how many people live here?'- an innocent question that most people would probably comfortable answering- but recently the census has changed to include detailed, invasive questions about people's personal finances and these changes have given people less faith in the system and now people are less likely than ever to honestly report real data. More importantly- we do not count the number of non-citizens in our census. The main reason is that if we were to ask for residency status we can be sure that illegal immigrants fearing deportation would have a huge incentive to lie or to refuse to respond to the census survey at all.
This is an incredible blind spot in our nation's macroeconomic policy. If we don't even know how many illegal workers are here- how can we know their effect on our economy? We can't trust people to be completely honest in responding to the census and we don't really have any hard data on illegal immigrants to consider.
The more I look at it the more I think Trump made an offer he knew would get turned down. He had the high ground already but now he really has it. Not only that but there is going to be some further fracturing of the dems. Divide and conquer.

Consider the scenarios since this bill will be brought to the Senate floor on Tuesday by Turtleman: -scenario 1- > it's filibustered or it fails to reach 60 votes even if a few Dim senators in red states vote for it (i.e Manchin, Jones, etc.) > Schumer looses - doesn't want DACA and chance to reopen govt -scenario 2- > Squeaks by with the 60 needed after Schumer allows red state Dims and a few others who really want this bill to vote for it (this was Graham Crackers' bipartisan bill in regards to DACA and TPS stipulations) > Schumer take minor hit but loosing only 7 senators out of 47; keeps majority of caucus in line > Goes over to House where Nancy... >a) never brings it up for a vote and it dies there > Pelosi looses - now looks like how Schumer would in not wanting DACA fix and reopening govt >b) has defection of 30-some moderate Dims who are also in red states or are more willing to work on a compromise deal since it has items they want, too (similar motive to Senate Dims) > Pelosi looses big time and looks extremely weak; can't control upstarts like AOC and now looses control of a good chuck of moderate Dims

Section 3. Effects on Illegal Immigration on the Housing Market
Let's say that 500 illegal immigrants move into your town. They have found work (under the table at below the minimum wage) and now they need a place to live. These new arrivals to town are going to shift the demand curve upward- resulting in higher rents for everyone. Housing is a scarce resource. We can't just build 500 apartments overnight. Housing is a basic need and trying to work a job while also being homeless is almost impossible. In order to have a job- you must also have a place to live.
Now imagine that you are not a resident of the town but you are considering a move there. You take a look at the rents in the area and see that they are VERY HIGH. You decide to look elsewhere because you just can't afford it. How do the illegal immigrants afford it? After all- they are not even making minimum wage! Cultural differences come into play here as people from poorer countries are often accustomed to sharing living space with their larger families. Often cramming that many people into a small living space is a rental agreement violation- but those rules are easily broken if the property management company or landlord looks the other way and fails to do their duty to enforce the contract. So, in the end, those who follow the rules are at a disadvantage.
