When I was in school they used to teach that journalists were supposed to use verified sources. When the "news" media started using anonymous sources a distinct cycle emerged. >propaganda press uses an anonymous source to make a false claim >Other media outlets quickly pick up the story with minimal investigation using the term "if true" >The collective liberal left gets riled up by unverified claims spread by the propaganda press >The original source eventually has walk back the story and admit that the unverified unsourced claim is not accurate >The liberal left is deflated and eat their own until the next anonymous propaganda source is served up

Funny thing is that CNN did it back in the day too. Except instead of a quick graphic flashing across the screen, they had it displayed front and center on their website for quite some time.
