I genuinely like him. I'm about his age (early 50s) and he has done some excellent work on mythology. His analyses of myth/legend are superb, because he is capable of mapping it to the present in surprising ways. His lectures on the Bible are well worth watching. However, and it is a big "however" for me is that I think he has been seduced by the idea that he is some kind of "elder" - a philosopher king, an Anglo-Saxon "Alderman", a stoic of the Romans in the mould of Marcus Aurelius.
