When I was a kid my young mother and u stopped at a park in a town outside the rez. There was a 2-3 year old baby at the park and she came up to us and we fed her. No parents or supervision. Many don't and the cycle perpetuates, but those that manage to get by unscathed have access to full-ride university scholarships courtesy of the state. Being native certainly helps getting accepted into most schools and programs too, because it's so rare. I'm from New Mexico, and most just move to Albuquerque and go to our state school, UNM. A lot still have family back on the Rez for the land and benefits.

This isn't true, the land isn't that bad at all. The whites actually live on objectively shittier land hence the name "badlands" which are north of the major reservations called "Pine Ridge" (filled with pine trees, shrubbery, ranch land, etc) and "Rosebud" (named because of surprise, surprise, roses of all things).

I volunteer a lot for my medical program at the Navajo Reservation at the border between Arizona and Utah. It’s interesting to say the least. A lot of oil wells, livestock, and tourism (great landscape).

The Navajo have a lot of Protestant and Mormon elements so they abstain from gambling so not much casinos for money. It’s the biggest native reservation since it is either mostly arid brush plains or rocky deserts, the stuff white people disn’t want. There gas stations with a small grocery store inside them. A lot are entitled since they get a lot of free stuff, we’d give them free glasses every year essentially so 90% would just break/lose them and not care, and they have that mentality with everything. I’m sure drugs/ alcohol are rampant since on the first day we went to a school to give out glasses and they had a lot of posters trying to warn kids not to do meth, weed, alcohol and warned how it’s their duty to the Navajo nation. The other day we went to a clinic and one guy came in high. Many of the medical staff were actually really nice and hard working, and a lot of the people were as well. Lot’s of houses like the one you posted around. They’re poor, but they’re about on par with the whites and natives who live off the reservation but close to it.

There was a few white kids in the school since specialist (teachers, engineers, doctors) moved to the reservation. This is because of how the rich/smart and those who can change the community usually leave. A nice people who have some inheritly bad practices/culture but some really good ones. They love their community and they aren’t super obsessed with material goods over the community, they’re very religious, but many are entitled or drunkards/druggies. They’re loyal Americans and hard workers if they didn’t have so many drugs and alcohol in the community. This is all I can really say about the Navajo/Hopi/Ute people since they are the only one’s I’ve dealt with.

One night I was so there with some ppl partying, and I remember a guy saying dude that white kid is getting his ass beat. I was confused at first because I wasn't getting beat up and then quickly realized the white guy must of been my friend. I ran outside and he was fighting them off in the back seat of the car. Depends on the surrounding area and the circumstances of the tribe. Many are closed systems of poverty and decay, others are indistinguishable from nearby towns. I've driven through a couple on the interior peninsula that are comfy little shore towns set out of time, full of friendly elders, but that's because the area they're in is full of white retirees too, and they easily make bank from passing tourists. Others I've seen are trashed and corrupt. Some of that depends on whether they have a casino gravy train or not, but I'd still say most of it is the general area, sometimes it's the politics.
