My keyboard has about 40 keys (4 octaves), too. I can play a lot of different pieces. Don‘t waste your money, buying a 1500 to 5000€ piano. It ain‘t worth it, if don’t play professionally.

Skip guitar hero too. You don't have to start on all of them. Saxophones run 3k+ for the alto and the biggers ones easily more, trumpets $300 for a good starter one, clarinets are relatively cheap as well, and trombones are really fun, inexpensive. Those are just my suggestions, I find them highly more romantic than keys, string, and drums, easily.

Hey guys, I have the option to do a PhD. I am not sure whether I should do it. It would mean several (3-5) years of medium income before I could settle down somewhere. Personally, I would like to have many children, but I currently don't have a partner. Getting a PhD would probably delay the time when I can have children and reduce the total number I could have. On the other hand, it could mean that I earn more in the long run so I might better be able to support a family. Any advice?

Getting as many children as possible is my goal anyways, but the question is how to get there. The thing is that – as I said – I don't have a partner right now. I will have to find someone and and get to know her for I guess at least one year. It might be easier to find someone in my target age-group in an university city. In my future work field in STEM, there will be nearly no chance to get to know someone at work or through colleagues.
