Quite a few criticisms can be leveled against him, both to his character and things hes done, to the inadequacy of the arguments he makes.
I often find myself in favor of what he argues for, but he makes such glaring mistakes that it has the opposite effect and makes the position look wrong. His recent "Art of the Argument" books is one example of this. He makes such basic, fundamental mistakes that you can't even take him seriously. (The mistakes are so basic that it would be like writing a book on Math then saying in the book that Addition is the process of removing one number from another.)
There are some very well documented examples of him being hypocritical, which is pretty damning for someone claiming to be an ethicist.
And he apparently had some type of cult thing going on for a while, and had people disassociate from their families as a standard move.
