Modern art serves several agendas:

1) Money laundering.

2) Cultural Marxism. Anyone can throw paint on a canvas. Now you have an excuse to claim that some Third World migrants' doodling is at the same level as Da Vinci, and anyone who disagrees is an uneducated racist.

Interesting thing I've noticed is that the talentless tend to call themselves an "artist" while those with talent are more likely to use a title appropriate to their type of art, so "sculptor" or "painter" instead of the more generic term artist.
