Bible/denomination/christianity discussion

I've been searching for faith recently and have lurked a bit in all the /christianity general/'s, but I've yet to make up my mind.
First: what bible do you reccomend and why? I'm looking for the closest to the original, but still dechiperable to a peasant like myself. I've read thru KJV since it's the most talked about on this board. Any objections against this one, if so, why? Which do you reccomend?
Second: Denominations, this one really rustles me.
I like the orthodox because they seem very true to the roots of christianity, no bullshit, very spiritual. However I'm turned off by the specific branching of it, like GREEK orthodox, or RUSSIAN orthodox. Is this a big deal? How hard is it for an "outsider" to fit in with all these "foreigners"?
Catholics, I love the holier than thou vibe, the aesthetics and how hard they praise it up. But at the same time it turns me off a bit. I think the church should be more modest, and I've heard alot about stupid shit they've done, and I feel they might be straying a bit from the path for their own gains. Any arguments to defend against these claims?
Protestants. I feel they're a justified reaction to catholics straying from the old path, and I'm not against man being able to have a personal relationship with God, without the need for a priest. However, protestantism has shown itself to be completely subjugated by SJW and PC bullshit, I need a church with integrity and I feel protestants are lost. Are there any hope for them? If so, how?

Feel free to discuss other questions aswell and help eachother out. Pagans please don't shitpost, you're very funny but I don't want a shitstorm itt please, I'm looking very hard for answers

>what bible do you reccomend and why? I'm looking for the closest to the original, but still dechiperable to a peasant like myself.
Vulgate. You should never read the Bible by yourself. Always trust the priest to interpret the word of the Lord for you.

Catholic here, you will most likely have many different translations if you try to really get into this. Start with the new testament, then return to the old and re-read the new testament. Don't fall for the "begom baptist, caddolic, ordodox" memes.
The advice I'm about to give you now is PRICELESS. Do NOT look to Pol for spiritual guidance. Same think applies to 8ch. Reading should be your only friend. Good luck.

I used to think Catholics were cucks, then I learned about Traditional Catholicism and joined. Traditional Catholics are actively trying to fight against modern Catholics who desecrate the Church.

>Traditional Catholics are
heretics. Francis is the voice of God. Bow down on both knees or stand if you are short.

Vatican Catholic is a good source of information, pretty much convinced me that modern R. Catholicism is tainted and taken over by individuals who do not follow God but are false teachers. Traditional Catholicism is the way.

But if I let the priest interpret it I may end up with a female priest talking about turning the cheek and welcoming arabs, u feel me?

Also, this is a big if. You'll hear that Missouri synod Lutherans is FAR more conservative than the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Try not choose a church on whether it's "BASED" or not but only if you genuinely believe in its core tenets.

Must watch. Why Jesus is greater than Muhammed

"Traditional Catholic" is a very loose term. FSSP is fine, SSPX is what you need to worry about.

>female priest
kek. Templars know that female priests do not exist in God's world.

How dare you say such things. Jesus said that the Word of God should be the daily bread for men. Catholicism did hide the truth for centuries to the believers who were just following priest, luckily a man named Luther rose up and through his work, allow everyone to be able to understand the bible and you want to go back to this obscurantism. Let the truth of the Lord shine. A Christian should read his Bible daily in order to grow from it to the maturity of Christ.

i find kjv a bad translation because one of my favorite passages Corinthians 13 says charity instead of love which for me is disastrous change (think it's fixed in nkjv)
I was told that orthodox bible scholars use old revised standard version as it's most true to the original, but that KJV is much more biblical in a sense that it sounds pretty.

As for branching, no it's not the big deal, it's the same Church, I think the most important thing is to find a good compatible priest, I guess American convert is the best bet as they would know what exactly theological troubles American raised in protestant surrounding might have.

Caths are ok in my book, I prefer theosis concept though and the loving (not angry) God.

Orthodoxy preaches that you learn Christianity in Church, so no, interpreting the Bible by yourself is a nono for us (I think Catholics are the same)

this but unironically
if they were truly "trad cats" they would accept francis as their leader

Just to add, I think the study bible that gets passed around a lot uses the NKJV. Not Orthodox so I can't say for certain.

Well first and foremost I'm asking for tips on which bible to read. Don't want to read some subjugated new-age bullshit bible and get the whole picture wrong. As I've stated I've already read thru the whole KJV (well, almost all of it, lack a few books in the OT)
So back to my original question, is KJV good, or is there something better? I just want the most authentic thing, albeit readable for a regular joe.

Hyperbole my dude, but you get the idea. So many churches today are preaching love and tolerance, but without reason. It's just an endless shitstorm of "yes, let them in, DO IT! Disregard the bad stuff, think of the good stuff!"

OP, pray and ask for guidance of the true Lord of the life to help you find a Church in which you will grow and please the Lord. I am myself Evangelical, it's protestant mouvement. I can demonstrate here that catholicism, at least the roman catholic is a religion by itself and not the truth that Jesus revealed on earth but I won't go there. A church where all the Bible is not taught is not a good church. Do you believe you should pray to Mary in order to be hear by God, if so, this is the lie of the devil and you should know that Jesus, and only him, is the way, the trruth and the life.

stop being weak convert to the true religion

Heres your (you), now please, don't.

Yeah, the KJV is good, try reading the NIV or the Douay rheims and see what you think (I would obviously shill for the later)

The King James Version of year 1611 is known as the most accurate version of the Bible. Here is a comparaison between the King James Bible 1611 and other new translations: https:// w w w .biblebelievers.com/jmelton/compare.html

Protestant are not lost OP, they are closer to the truth than any Catholic denomination. Do you need a Bible Study to have your eyes open? Do you know about the idolatry of worshipping Mary ?

>Protestant are not lost OP
Then Leafs are lost.

Another question btw, very general and purely out of curiosity.
What do you think it means to be christian? What are the core values that you strive to uphold? Give a quick rundown if you please.

Sorry, I may have miscommunicated a bit. I'm talking in very broad terms, MOST of the very public protestants come of as weak, but there is ofcourse some very conservative protestant churches out there aswell. And I'm well aware of the catholics and their idoltary, but I've heard some good points for it, even tho I myself am against it in the end.

Thanks for the link, very reassuring.

KJV is good, really watch out for NIV though.

Mary was not a virgin forever.

Of course she was virgin when she gave birth to Jesus, but the Bible clearly says that she and Joseph slept with eachother after. Why do Catholics teach against such clear teaching?

Matthew 1:25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus.
>knew her not till
>firstborn

Now a verse catholics bring up is "2 Samuel 6:23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death." and say if Mattew is saying he would have slept with her because it says "till" rhen that would mean Mical had a child after she died. But it says "day of her death" not just "her death". She could have had a child then died later that day. Also it probably means she didn't have any children since it doesn't say "until" and most versions say the same thing or say she never had any children.

You do not need to be baptized to be saved. There's only 3 verses I've seen people use to try to say you need to be baptized, I'll debunk all three.

Mark 16:15
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
This verse does not say what happens to a person that belivees and is not baptized, only someone that believes and is baptized and someone that does not believe. Let's say Person A believes and is baptized, Person B believes and is not baptized, and Person C does not believe. According to this verse A goes to Heaven and C goes to Hell, but says nothing about B. According to John 3:36 "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." Person A and B go to Heaven and C goes to Hell.

John 3:5
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
They will say being "born of water" is being baptized. No, being born of water is being physically born, and they will usually leave out verse 6 "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." which Jesus compares being born of water with being born of the flesh, and being born of the spirit with being born of the spirit.

1 Peter 3:21
The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
They will take the part where it says "baptism doth also now save us" and say that proves it, but no, it's "The like figure" that saves us, not baptism. And the like figure is the death, burial, and ressurection of Christ. Colossians 2:12 12 "Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead."

1 Timothy 3
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
>must be the husband of one wife, having children
Catholics and Orthodox teach the exact opposite.

The different regional churches in Orthodoxy are no big deal, it's all one church, a Greek can go to a Russian church and participate fully in their church.

As for the outsider/foreigner thing, I'm a convert to Antiochian Orthodoxy (the Arab form of Orthodoxy) and they've been extremely welcoming, even though I have blonde hair and blue eyes.

There are a lot of great resources out there for studying Orthodoxy, this is a good one
oca.org/orthodoxy/the-orthodox-faith

As for the bible, I use the Orthodox study bible (about $30 on Amazon), it uses New King James Version, and has analysis and explanations of verses in the footnotes, and it has pages explaining points of Orthodox doctrine, and has some nice icons in it as well, and a section of prayers, and a lectionary.

Jesus is the rock, not Peter. Literally everytime "rock" is mentioned, aside from a literal rock, it's talking about God.

2 Samuel 22:32 For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God?

Psalms 18:31 For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God?
>who is a rock save our God?
Is Peter God then?

Psalms 94:22 But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.

Psalms 95:1 O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
>sing unto the LORD... rock of our salvation
Not Peter
>b-but that's o-old testament

1 Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
>that Rock was Christ

1 Peter 2:8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
Even Peter is saying the rock is Jesus

This is a big question. If you are trusting mere mortals for answers to this question...
This mortal suggests reading several versions of the Bible, but always checking the publisher's bias. This mortal is now reading through the NAB Catholic version, but has read NIV, KJV, NKJV, RSV, and ASV. Any of those will give you decent translations. Next on this mortal's list is Douay Rheims. You can also go to biblegateway.com and see most translations side by side. May God bless you in your search.

To be Christian means to be a follower of Christ. That what Christian means.
I think is widely known that the core value that a Christian thrive to uphold is written in March 12:28-31 :
And one of the Scribes came [...] asked him which is the first commandement of all.

29 And Iesus answered him, The first of all the commandements is, Heare, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord:

30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: This is the first commandement.

31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thy self: there is none other commandement greater than these.

The Revised English Bible is good.

Lutheranism is close to the true, universal church, as long as you don't bring in the liberal politics. Find a Lutheran church that is not affiliated with the ELCA.

Lutheran music and liturgy is the best.

Orthodox priests marry.

No one worships Mary, but to deny the remarkable uniqueness of being the Mother of God? You fail to magnify or call her blessed, as you ought. Reread Luke.

Same but Greek here. Down to hair and eyes. Same Bible too

WELS here, you Missouri synod?

for me it means worshiping the god the way my ancestors did and my people do.
i have no illusion that the bible isn't flawed and that church isn't flawed and that christianity isn't flawed.
but that was handed to me as a way to worship the god, who i know exists beyond any doubt

i met monks of mount athos, i had the privilege to see patriarch pavel of our church and i'm sure whatever flaws christianity they preach has, it does the job, it does bring you to theosis and closer to god.
that's enough for me

Good stuff, but forgive me for being so difficult but I must ask:
How do you interpet the "love thy neighbor" thing in this day and age. I'm refering to the political climate.
Obviously I can't love the "neighbors" that undermine my culture, and the "neighbors" that rape and kill my countrymen. What is a neighbor in this sense? How does it translate versus the more conservative verses of the bible, the ones about protecting your borders and those where God kept people of different races apart (Tower of babel and the likes).
I know, we should strive for peace and the likes, but when people try to kill you, both physically and spiritual, how do you love them?

Brother, I'm telling you from the bottom of my heart, the Bible is perfect and surely without doubt the Word of God. Mens are not perfect, and through their understanding of the BIble, they may ended up preaching something different.
The Word of God is the most precious thing God gave us with his Son Jesus, and he surely made sure that everything from his Word was kept clean from any flaws. How can this book draw you close to the Perfect God if it has imperfection in it. Do not let yourself deceived in idolatry by worshipping a men above what he deserves.

i'm orthodox mate, and we do not worship the bible we worship the god.

to quote bruce lee: “it's like a finger pointing away to the moon. don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory.”

Hey, this is really important.

Go to Youtube and search "Kent Hovind Seminar 1" and watch all the videos.

You don't need a specific version but just a concrete faith in God. He saved me, he can help you.

My brother, I love sharing with you as I love you. It's a great pleasure to share with you my understanding of the Bible and if you would like, I can give you my contact and we can go deeper in the Bible together.

In our days and age as well as in the old times, to love our neighbor as yourself did not change. Back in the days as well they were evil men.
I will answer your question according to the scripture: Your neighbor is every men and woman on earth, God is literally asking you to love anyone like yourself. This is not easy as you said yourself that some are really evil. However, you are asked to hate their evil doings but to also recognize that those evil men are deceived by the devil. To love them is to want for those lost sheep to come back to righteousness, to love them is to desire their salvation in christ, to love them is to pray for them in be in heaven with you. You see this is not easy, as we are flawed in our heart, but as you seek Christ with your heart after you are born again ( to be born again is to receive christ as your God and Savior, the new Master of your life) and you remain in Christ, God himself will pour love in abundance in your heart because this God is true and faithful to his word. (1/2).

Before converted back to Christianity I went to church with my parents. It was a Korean church with a lot of middle aged mixed race couples. The pastor was passionate and relatable even with the accent. The crazy thing was that every week, a group of volunteers would assemble at one of their houses and have a buffet and do some worship. This blew my mind but isn’t this supposed to be a basic function of community via church? My current Protestant Church is excellent. I’ve broken bread with my pastor and we’ve got this great home group program geared towards many different lifestyles. They aren’t afraid to talk about red pilled stuff either. I recommend “lurking” multiple churches and aim for the one that has that sense of “community” that western society has drifted so far aware from and help rebuild it.

(2/2)
Christ is alive now as I am talking to you and he said, thee who shall draw close to me, I will draw close to him. A human heart, without Chirst, is not able to obey God. However, because he is faithful and as you seek him, he will draw close to you and Himself will pour what the Bible calls the fruit of the spirit in you:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)

With these fruit of the sprit in you, you will be able to love in abundance anyone on earth and be able to follow God second commandment.

Love is very important:

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body [a]to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not [b]puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, [c]thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
(1st Corinthians 13:1-7)

Be blessed my brother. :)
