Should tipping be legally enforced?

Tipping is said to be a way to encourage better service, yet it seems only when you tip in situations where a tip is unexpected is this idea true.

I have never tipped over 15% in my life and i was quite suprised when i went to the US and some places consider 15% the low end of tipping.

The only way to end the culture of tipping is to not tip people unless provided truly exceptional service. And even then keep it around 10%

I noticed some fast food joints have a tipping option on the machine so you are expected to tip before even being served. If you don't they have a chance to fuck with your food.

The employer is cheaping out an expecting you to pick up the tab, but that's no reason to punish the employee by not tipping. The prices are lower because they aren't paying their employees shit, so just expect to pay around $2 more if you eat out or don't eat out. I typically only tip 10% because it's easy to calculate and hard for me to be so much of a kike that I can't spare an extra 10% of the bill.

Correct. Except if the employee still doesn't make minimum wage even after tips the employer has to make up the difference. An employer not doing that is open to all the find, penalties, and personal lawsuits that could close the business due to legal fees.

It is in France - well, tipping is not "enforced" but the bars and restaurants have to give a decent minimal wage to waiters, unlike US where they HAVE to get tips to live correctly.

I went to a Chinese restaurant in NYC, Chinese restaurants it will usually be six different people who serve you, whoever is nearby. I hate tipping at these places because it is obvious the owner will just pocket everything. I decided not to and the owner called me out in front of all the diners as I was walking away. Better to pay a good wage to your staff so they don't have to live on tips. Most restaurant staff not only work but because their wages are so low they qualify for SNAP or General Assistance (like most fast food and WalMart employees). This would reduce the welfare rolls and put the burden where it belongs, not on the gov't but on the employer
