Find a new therapist. Also if you aren't willing to help yourself then there's nothing they can do for you.

What happened?

What'd you do?

the short of it
>"read this book on meditation"
>tell him i really don't want to do meditation (based on prior experiences) can we do literally anything else
>"just read it"
>week later, haven't read it, tell him that and talk about past experiences with it again
>"yeah I have the feeling this isn't going to work out and whatever I say to help you you're going to say no to"
>also asks me to meet with him more despite me working 9-5 every single day and already taking time off work to see him
>ends the session 15 minutes early
on one hand I feel guilty for not reading the book, on the other hand I'm pissed that literally every single fucking doctor I've been to has either
>lol pills
>"just meditate lol" which has never helped me in my life

>noncompliant with treatment
>cites his history of noncompliance as a reason why he won't try treatment
Yeah I'd fire you as a patient too.

Well maybe you’re the problem and not all the doctors. Can you at least try sincerely instead of going ‘no i dont like it, let me not listen to what you say and i’ll tell you how to do your job’. I dont think you gave meditation a good go. You are literally wasting your own time and their time by refusing to do what they ask you. They dont want to torture you. Their purose is to help you.

with any luck you'll never get a job helping people pretend their problems away

Um. Yeah you need a different therapist. While I don't think you're telling the whole story it doesn't look like you two will be compatible with each other. He wants to take your therapy one way and you want to take it a different way. Just part ways and find someone else.

Also meditation helps some people but not others. You should at least try it even if you think it's stupid. He does seem awfully inconsiderate of your schedule and feelings, though.

take the pills then
you're too fucked to get out of this with willpower

looks like
are pro-meditation, and you're in the wrong here, so who am i going to believe? looks like majority rules

I'm not pro-meditation at all. I'm pro-complying with what your mental health practitioner wants you to try.

tomato tomatto. so I should just go with a treatment path that has failed me before (obviously my fault by the way, no chance of incompatibility) because the practitioner has literally no other alternative. gotcha.
>OBEY

I'm not pro meditation all. I've been going to therapy for my anxiety, depression, and sex addiction for almost three years and not once has my therapist suggested I do meditation. It works for some and not for others. How the fuck does that put me in the wrong?

well, for one, your dumb ass came into a thread that it knows nothing about

You've also expressed a ridiculous opinion of pharmacological treatment, so yes, I think it's not a matter of incompatibility but patient attitude and demeanor. Nothing I can say, of course, is gonna make you change your tune. But, surprise surprise, therapy is just about guaranteed to fail when your patient won't even do the most basic thing you ask him to do.

>argumentative and belligerent in response to disagreement
I wish you could see how you're pigeonholing yourself as an oppositionally-defiant patient. It's kind of hilarious.

my mistake for creating a honeypot where every druggie who asked their doc to get them off their adderal addiction could get sucked in as an expert on the subject

If you're the OP you're being awfully rude to someone who agreed with you.

If you aren't the OP, I think you have me confused with someone else.

Some therapists are cocky assholes with a god complex. I've had many therapists in my life and some of them are like this.
I don't think you did anything wrong, op.
You should find somebody else that is willing to work with you.

haha what the fuck does this even mean?

so everyone just to recap:
>do meditation
>no please can we do something else
>LOL FUCKING OP LMAO YOU FAGGOT YOU ARE THE WORST PATIENT EVER YOU ARE GOING TO DIE SO BETTER GET DRUGGED UP CUNT

thanks guys, very cool

OP why did you come here if you’re arguing with everyone? Did you want advice or did you want a circlejerk?

>you're a shit patient BITCH
>advice
i'd rather not get circlejerked ON. now fuck off

Cringe.
Grim.

did he even consider that you might have ADD? Id sue him for discrimination.

Wow you have problems op. I never said anything about you being a shit patient. I dont even care. I just noticed that all your replies seem very angry. Do you want help? What do you want? Do you want me to say ‘yeah therapists suck dick’?

I just want to be in control of my own body and mind, but with this thread I just wanted someone to acknowledge that I existed. If anything you guys made me so angry that I bought the book, so yeah if you want a pat on the back there you go and hah if anyone wanted me to die before 30.

>but with this thread I just wanted someone to acknowledge that I existed
So basically your intention was to create a vent thread/BAWWWWWing thread? You should know that's against the rules. Get the fuck out of this board.

I'll take the ban. see ya faggots

Hey it’s ok don’t get worked up. I acknowledge you exist. We all are. I know that everyone is trying to help you although maybe you didnt like how or what they said. But can we agree that they are trying? I dont think anyone here has said they want you to die. Calm down and read theough the replies again. No one wants you to die. If we wanted you to die we would have said it. I think you get worked up easily so find a way to destress yourself. I dont want a pat on the back. I want you to feel ok. You will be ok op. It will be hard but you have to keep trying.

People (Jow Forums especially) tend to think that talk therapy is the gold standard for mental health issues and that if you go into it with an open mind it will always help.
I disagree.
Any asshole can get a master's in social work and become a therapist. It does not necessarily mean that they are competent as a therapist.
Talk therapy is not a fix all. Not even paired with psychiatric drugs (that will eventually cause tolerance and downregulation) it doesn't work for everybody.

>Talk therapy is not a fix all.
When meds have failed, it's the next step. And when patient noncompliance is the issue (as here, given this guy's attitude towards both therapy and meds), it needs to be pointed out by peers. That's honestly why I think group therapy can be effective; they can call other patients out on their bullshit so much more effectively than the therapist can.

Like this OP? He's full of shit.

>being this agitated

Your therapist is a douche and just wanted to make money off you until he grew tired of it. Try to find a new one with a more sensitve understanding of your problems.

>not wanting to waste time on the same treatment that was previously ineffective
>patient noncompliance
Really?

Seems pretty likely that it was ineffective because you were noncompliant.

>visit therapist
>be non-compliant
>act surprised when they cut you off
Therapy isn't like curing a disease where you take a treatment and expect it to sort itself out. You actually need to work with your therapist beyond 1-on-1 sessions if you want shit to get done, otherwise it's a waste of time.
>tell him i really don't want to do meditation (based on prior experiences)
What? It's literally just a bunch of breathing exercises. You read the book and chill out for 30 minutes. Done.

sometimes people just can't mesh with each other. the patient-therapist relationship is part of the treatment, a non-judgemental confidante to help you work through your issues. if this therapist said something to you about being a lost cause, then they're only giving you half-arsed treatment.

there's also a range of psychological therapies, maybe meditation is not for you but there are things like standard counselling, CBT, DBT, and therapies involving enjoyable activities like dancing. keep trying user, you're not a lost cause at all
