Not sure how much of the story is true, but apparently the vape shop scrubbed the receipt and cctv footage. The doctors at JPS didnt run any xrays either to find out that there was still a cartridge lodged in his throat. The guy who was telling me the story was pretty shaken up about his best friend dying though so i could see some of those theories ideate.

Typically the ones that explode like this are using mechanical mods with shitty quality batteries. Congratulations if you short stacked batteries in a metal tube with no way to vent, you essentially have what is like a pipe bomb going off in your hand.

You want something that you can squawk on or whatever and blow vapors and you don't have circuitry to prevent a hard short on an 18650 and you kinda brought it upon yourself. A catastrophic thermal runaway on one of them is no joke.

Don't use shitty batteries, try to make sure your batteries are properly wrapped. Try to make sure that you're not using knock-offs, and realize that they have a lot of power in them.

there are mechanical mods that aren't pipe bombs. i've switched to using pod system vapes but i used to use a zen2 mechanical mod. it will not explode like a pipe bomb because it was actually made by an american engineer who understands what he's building not some chink in shenzhen.

It's not vapes that explode, it's the lithium batteries inside. If cheaply made, they can catch fire or even explode. They don't just do that in vape pens, but also primarily in smartphones and in chargers.

In Germany, there's certification agencies that put those products to the test and then and only if they are deemed safe they get a sticker. G+S is the most common (geprüft und sicher - tested and safe), followed by TÜV (technical supervision corporation). Electrical stuff and stuff that can catch on fire or choke a toddler should only be bought if it has these stamps or stickers.

Deaths are not uncommon in lithium battery explosions. Last year a guy in Hamburg got killed when his charger exploded.

Problem is not necessarily the batteries themselves, but people putting them in modified electronic devices.
