I made less but not because of trump.
There was a $200 price difference.
I made 2k more because i cashed out a garbage IRA .
But if i had not. It would have been exactly the same. But i also had an extra $100 a month throughout the year.
So i can actually say the government held less of my miney hostage .

I'm smol brain so I was like wtf too since my return went down by like $500ish, but then I looked at what they actually withheld, which was several thousand less than last year. So yes, thanks for that tax cut Trump.

Not even that. I live in California and am getting more back this year, even having bought a house here in 2017. This guy, if he is married, pays more than 24,000 in state and property tax.
Property tax in LA is about .8% per year. I bought my house for 300k, but it is assessed much lower than that and I pay about 1700 in property tax, and my income tax is 8%, about 6400 per year. I'm single so the standard deduction for me is 12,000. That's more than I pay the state and county.
So if this guy is single and paying more than 12,000 in state and local taxes, well, do the math.
Also, he's a retired teacher in Missouri, so I'm pretty sure he's lying.

If the same held true in NY and you made a fair amount of money; you could end up paying no money to the IRS at all.
