Look for people that make their money investing and managing your money primarily only if your money is doing well. Avoid the people whose business grows from fees (banks, certain types of brokers) and you can really crank what you've got
Btw regardless of who anyone blames, the market is due for another correction. Financial markets are forward movement, a step or two back for correction and pace, then back to forward movement. You're in a position where if the market tanks, you can set yourself up to really make a killing after it recovers again

It's an artificial number. A lot of people don't declare anything, a lot of people (like me) use technically-legal schemes to avoid paying crazy taxes etc. Real income here is bigger, only low-level gov clerks have that $400 shit.

You've worked hard and made your money and you go to work everyday doing that and you know as much if not more then anybody else at what you do then people who DONT do your job. Let someone who is a professional at growing money and managing it do what theyre a professional at so you can enjoy your life. If they make their money by taking a % of how much money your account generates, that's their incentive, that's capitalism. You've got enough that maybe you invest a little of what you've got with them and see how they do. Make sure they're licensed, make sure they aren't promising 15-20% returns (those are the maddoffs scammers) and watch what they do. Make sure they are investing it in diversified investments (no hey man I know about this great real estate investment kinda shit), mutual funds are relatively safe and Keep some money where you've got it if you feel comfortable with that. But at 170k you've got room to move around and try some things. 3% is basically a CD from a bank almost. And that's fine but remember you have to pay taxes on those dividends and earnings, if you're only making 3% and then that 3% gets taxes at 20%, you aren't really earning 3%. Since you aren't an investor try to stay away from letting anyone put your money in individual stocks also. It can pay off sure, bit it's riskier then a good well rounded mutual fund. Talk to your family and friends and colleagues too. Someone has money around you and they probably have someone theyve know for years that they trust that helps them.
