Hello Jow Forums I have no one to tell what shitty thing happened to me today so I just decided to post it here
So I had my phone together with my wallet stolen from me earlier today after classes a few meters away from my uni, after I hear a couple of bystanders and commuters speaking that somebody was touching my bag, after that I just saw someone (which is the thief) crossing the road while sprinting, which I tried to chase but I fucking can't because the traffic light just turned green and the road turned busy again, and I lost track of the thief
Then after shit happened I just decided to tell myself "Fuck this" and walk a few kilometers to my home w/o making any eye contact to anyone who witness the incident to prevent myself from hurting them out of pure anger
So I am sitting right now in front of my laptop trying to disconnect every account associated with my phone and my phone number, but I just cannot understand why didn't anyone made an attempt to stop the thief while he's touching my bag, I know it's my fault for not being aware of my surroundings, I know it's my fault for not being able to feel the thief touching my bag, but I still can't understand why, from the dozens of people who saw the thief touching my bag, none made an attempt to stop him
I've been a nice person to everyone I met, I helped several people from the past, I made donations to typhoon victims, I spared some money to beggars, but I still can't understand why didn't anyone helped me today?
Although I have relatives in my house right now, I can't tell them since they would only make the situation worse and tell me what a failure I am and that I should move with my mother

I've had my wallet and phone stolen on 2 seperate occassions.
I reported it to the police and cancelled all my cards and shit, but ultimately it wasn't a huge deal.
Shit happens to good people as well as bad. Thats just life.
Ethan Rodriguez
It wasn't a huge deal to me either since my wallet only contains the money that I brought for today and a graduation pic, and I only use my phone as a 2FA which I can disconnect and to read E-books
I feel like being nice to every people I meet isn't worth it anymore

Be an asshole for a day for a change. No one said you had to be nice all your life. You might actually learn something useful while being an asshole.
Nathaniel Richardson
What do you mean by becoming asshole? Should I just shit on people and take advantage of them?
Jaxson Thomas
Yes.
You only have to do it for a day, not forever.
James White
A stranger's wallet's not worth getting potentially stabbed to death, fuckface. Being courteous to people in your day to day life doesn't come with the risk of being stabbed to death. Physically intervening on a thief isn't common courtesy, it's insanity. But let's pretend it's a shitty thing to do. Does the fact that you happened to be surrounded by shitty people that day mean those typhoon victims are shitty people too? Don't do nice things just expecting shit in return.
Hunter Torres
People are cowardly for the most part. They don't want to be seen as "weird", nor can they be bothered to protect you since they don't know you. Can't you track your phone though?
Jordan Foster
Did you leave location on your phone? Because the phone company can track it.
Also this is why my phone only opens with fingerprint access.
I just used google's "Find My Device" but unfortunately it says that my device is unavailable, maybe because it doesn't have an internet connection when it was stolen
So I just used the "Erase Device" option which would erase everything in your device the next time it comes online, I just hope that it works because I don't want my personal information leaked

I guess you felt betrayed in a way? I know what feeling you are talking about, what feeling of injustice. All advise I can give you is to not bottle up your emotions and express them in some way, like punch your pillow or be a complete asshole to someone in an imaginary situation
Wyatt Kelly
You're making an appeal to fairness and equality. The world is not fair. But you should continue being good, set an example of the world you want to see.
It's reasonable to be angry at the bystanders, but you seem more mad at them than the thief. Keep things in perspective. Learn from this the next time you happen to be a bystander. You might feel nervous, unsure, or hesitant; but remember how you felt when you were victimized when you didn't have to be -- you can save someone in the future from this sort of fate.
Daniel Sullivan
Or he could become cynical and laugh at someone else when it happens to them. Best way to get rid of your own pain is to make others feel like you di
Evan Cook
OP is not about you being nice or bad to people. The way I see it, you were just a casualty of the bystander effect. You can be a perfect angel to everyone and it won't change the way people act because we are all wired to think that someone will take care of it (help you). Learn from this experience and don't let it define you in a negative way, if you do then that thief took more than just your phone and wallet.

Crowd mentality Each lemming believes the next lemming will do something about it It's a legit psychological phenomenon. That's why I've mentally hardened myself to take first key to the scene when I can. What it really means is you're right, you should be hawking over your stuff. I always, always have my wallet and phone in my pockets, which I have pinned by my arms, or I put my hands in them, or otherwise. Yes, I'm constantly paranoid; no, I've never been stolen from.

>w/o making any eye contact to anyone who witness the incident to prevent myself from hurting them out of pure anger >I still can't understand why, from the dozens of people who saw the thief touching my bag, none made an attempt to stop him So you were robbed but everyone else was supposed to stop it? grow up, you would have looked away if you saw it happen, nobody wants confrontation. What if they said something and he picked a fight with them? what if he had a weapon? In the future be more aware of what is going on, stop watching anime on your phone when you are walking and walk with purpose so you notice anyone walking your pace. Anyone else is aware of their surroundings, that's why YOU were TARGETED. If you can't be bothered to pay attention in the future buy a padlock for your bag.
>I've been a nice person to everyone I met, I helped several people from the past, I made donations to typhoon victims, I spared some money to beggars, but I still can't understand why didn't anyone helped me today? Was karma supposed to save you? one of the typhoon victims? homeless people?
Lincoln Sullivan
Yeah, I would continue to become a good person, but I don't know if I could still act the same way, after what happened
I already learned my mistake from that awful experience
Kevin Anderson
I'm not chasing down a dude and getting stabbed to save your phone, OP.
Jackson Hall
That was my mistake also and I feel like I'm stupid for not wearing my bag on the front in a crowded place
Jace Garcia
I'll take note of the bystander effect, and I'll try to act as fast as possible the next time I witness an incident
Jason Lewis
Not wanting to enter a physical altercation to save the cellphone of a guy who can't even be bothered to watch it and keep track of it isn't really the bystander effect. Plenty of people help when there are actual stakes on the line but no one thought your cellphone was worth bleeding for.
Josiah Gutierrez
The point is not chasing the thief, but stopping or calling him out while you're watching him take something from my bag
Logan Martinez
It's really annoying when you lose something I think you should report it to the police regardless and it might actually turn up.
I lost $1,500 to Bitcoins so understand you will get over it
Juan Watson
I already know that it was a mistake in my part just like what I said in
Nolan Sanders
>grow up, you would have looked away if you saw it happen, nobody wants confrontation Dude, I already witnessed a few incident like mine, but did I just looked away and pretend that nothing happened? No, I took action instead of just standing
Noted
James Brown
>report it to the police That was something I didn't do after shit happened, IDK if I still can report it today without being questioned why I didn't reported it yesterday
Isaiah Hall
Watch your own bag, stupid

The world's a shitty place mate, I would of helped you and I'm sure others would have. Maybe they were shocked and possibly scared. Karma will get the little cunt sooner or later so don't worry about it..

Let the circumstances change you for the better. Possibly simplify you daily carry, get a better system with your valuable belongings. Try being less forgetful. But don’t let this make you distrust or hate your fellow man. You never know the situation of the offender. They might have been in a situation where they were forced into wrong doing or they are possibly very sick and need help. Don’t continue the cycle and let fear rule you.

I had a ~$2,000 brand new scooter stolen
I'm not going to stop being nice to people. The point of being nice is not just to be treated nice. It's to just be nice. There's enough suffering in the world; there is no need to add to it
Get an antitheft app for your phone next time. I use Cerberus. I also installed a GPS tracker on my new scooter.
The intense frustration is understandable; I've been there. Just chill out and learn from your mistakes.
Maybe learn krav maga so you can hospitalize the next cunt who tries stealing your shit.
