The incident occurred towards the end of the war, as the Japanese were fleeing. Not to be the war crime denying faggot in this thread, but what the Chinese did to themselves during their own civil war outclasses Nanking and any other Japanese PoW camp by miles. I guess committing war crimes only counts if you're the foreigner, huh? You must also keep in mind that the Second World War is the single most propagandized event in our recent history. Some claims regarding various events during it will unavoidably be falsified or exaggerated. There is ample reason to be cautious with what you choose to believe about it.
With that out of the way, though, I believe the reason why not many people in the western world give a fuck about the Japanese' war crimes is that it simply just isn't relevant to us. It works vice versa in Mainland Asia, I hear - Nazis are fashion icons but the Japs are spooky taboo.
