1.) Educational systems and their funding is largely dependent on federal funding to states
2.) Educators make shit money because they don't know how to handle their finances and like most temporarily embarassed millionaires in the US, they live beyond their means
3.) If you taught your kids better, you'd get paid more, because your school's test scores and performance warrant additional funding from both the state and the federal government

Down south we largely gave up on public education for obvious reasons. With that said, while I question the role of the public sector in pensions and health, I absolutely support increasing the role of the public sector in education. We should be back home economics and shop class and make them both co-ed. There was a great idea (I think out of North Carolina several years back) that would have melded high school with local community colleges. Community colleges serve two roles of preparing students for universities while doubling as trade schools. The proposal would have produced high school graduates who also have their associates degree or experience in the trades.
