When you're fighting in a guerilla environment, it's not conventional in the least and carrying around a fucking MRE or two just gets in the way of more ammo you might need. Go buy one of many field manuals and read up before you post again. Even in low visibility areas like a jungle you can still see the light of a fire from at least 50-100 meters not to mention the smell burning wood gives off when you don't know if your enemy is downwind or not.
