Take em. There are non firearm weapons in existence now that exceed the capacity of traditional fireaems by several orders of magnitude and have many advantages over traditional firearms. They can be cobbled together from few parts, are practically silent, and have absurd sustained rates of fire.
And best of all:they can be made solar powered.
One could literally decimate a giant crowd of people as if they wield a giant weed-eater. The rate of fire is so high that an entire football stadium of people could be razed in minutes.
Firearms have basically been obsolete for 20 years but therenis no use for a weapon that has a single fire mode (which probably should be called population control)
