Green with communist envy, yes.

But we totally stuck it to Bezos man! It's not like there aren't hundreds of other cities across the country who wouldn't be happy to host Amazon and collect all that tax revenue!

Stop shilling for Amazon they pay their workers shit and demand corporate welfare.
Angel Allen
NYC user here. Liberals have been talking about how the government was going to give amazon 2b whereas they believe that money should be basically given out in bread and circuses type programs. What they don't understand is that giving a company a tax incentive is not whatsoever the same as giving a company liquid cash, and they don't understand that it's an investment in 10b+ in tax revenue, of which we are in dire need, in the next ten years. You might be wondering, how can people not understand such basic math? Well, we've become a city of third world citizenry, so soon we'll be a city of third world financial health and public safety. Major companies not being able to set up headquarters here is a serious canary in the coal mine that has me looking for a way to transition to life somewhere else.
Ian Howard
>collect all that tax revenue!
What tax revenue? Any city that allows Amazon to move their will get shafted for millions while Bezos pockets billions
Christopher Jones
You think the government should be giving billions to corporations?
>bread and circuses type programs
But you have no problems handing it out to billionaires.
> we've become a city of third world citizenry,
Because the country lets in shitskins, that has nothing to do with Amazon. Letting in shitskins to act as cheap labor is the Amazon business model anyway same with the rest of Silicon Valley.
Brody Watson
tax cuts are not donations. stop being a disingenuous little shit like horseface.
Mason Russell
Think of all the sales tax
Robert Richardson
>Giving billions
We would not have been giving them a shipping container full of hundred dollar bills, we would have been giving them tax incentives to attract their tax revenue. That's an investment with a yield of 500% in the first ten years. Bread and circuses don't yield returns. The two are not compatible. Unless you have any other ideas for how the city can take 2 nonexistent hypothetical billions and turn it into 10 billion in real tax revenue, i suggest you turn off your computer and go off yourself.
Owen Hughes
The two are not comparable, I meant two write, not compatible.
Thomas Parker
Yeah it is it's corporate welfare for billionaires. Everyone else has to pay taxes except this tiny elite that gets preferential treatment.
You're fucking over average people and small business that have to actually pay real tax rates while giving preferential treatment to a giant monopoly. If you don't see that as fucked up you're an elitist. Yeah it is corporate welfare and basically the same as telling normal people to go fuck themselves.
Yeah sales tax generated by charging normal people while giving a cut to a cock sucking neoliberal billionaire.
Levi Perez
That picture is legitimately one of the funniest things I have seen all day

>What tax revenue?
The $27 billion in tax revenue the city estimated the deal would create for them over the coming 30 years?
That's about $1 billion a year. NYC's entire FY2019 budget was like $90 billion. So that's a single company covering 1% of their total budget.
I think people in the community had legitimate gripes about rent and housing prices, but in the long run this would have been a win for them and New York City as a whole.
But hey, whatever. Bezos is still going to get richer, and instead of NYC sharing in the wealth, it's going to be other countries across the US instead who were more welcoming and business-friendly.
Hunter Williams
>it's going to be other cities across the US
Derp, typo
Isaiah Moore
Unsurprisingly you're not addressing my argument, and your response betrays a lack of understanding as to how taxes work. Regular people don't generate billions of dollars of revenue, which is why we don't negotiate rates with them, and they will have to pay the same tax rates regardless of whether we can attract business. In fact, over a long period of time, a failure to attract multi trillion dollar corporations with tax incentives to yield massive tax revenue for this city will place more tax pressure on weaker shoulders, as regular people will have to keep the city solvent all on their own. Corporate tax revenue makes it so that we don't have to increase property taxes and state income tax. A lack of corporate tax revenue and guess who has to cough up?
Jeremiah Johnson
Regular people pay all the fucking taxes
see
You give Amazon millions of dollars in tax cuts and they cover what? 1% of the Fire dept budget? That's nothing. Why should they get special treatment? Why do you support giving special treatment to billionaires and corporate monopolies?
Nolan Martin
what about the people that invested in Long island city housing, buildings during the AMAZON news; and are now left holding the bag like chumps.
Owen Jackson
you are not giving amazon anything; you are simply not charging them 3billion tax' - it was worth it due to the jobs amazon woulda brought, income tax, sales tax, etc which would of equated to 50billion in 10 years.
Ian Clark
That's the funniest part, though, most (all?) of it wasn't even special treatment. From my understanding it was incentives codified in law that would have been offered to any other company of that size coming to NYC to invest the amount of money they were planning to.
Brayden Butler
theres a reason 200 cities wanted amazon to go to them; nyc is stupid enough to actually reject amazon after winning the lottery. idiots.
Jason Collins
that socialist schmangaloon should keep quiet while all the workers are working and she should be happy shes wearing clothes she cant make driving a car she cant fix living in a house she cant build
Chase Perez
Yeah you are you are giving them special treatment that no other business gets. Every normal jack off has to pay the regular tax rates but Jeff Bezos gets a tax cut for being rich.
If that's true it's not as bad, but I know for a fact my shithole city was trying to give Amazon all sorts of special tax breaks just to be Bezos' cumrag that it would never give anyone else.
Grayson Myers
The amazon HQ is not now part of our taxable economy. We tell them basically that they get the first 2b on the house, and then thereafter they would have to pay us 1b in taxes yearly. They come here, enter our economy, and then we can tax them. If we hadn't given this concession, they wouldn't be here subject to our tax jurisdiction. Giving them an allowance costs us nothing. We're not giving them money, we're telling them "we are okay with taking less from you, so that you have an incentive to break ground here." Again, I never denied that regular people collectively amount to a large tax base, I said that regular INDIVIDUALS don't have taxable incomes large enough that we'd give tax incentives to an individual considering moving to New York. If amazon comes here we lose nothing, and we gain much in otherwise nonexistent revenue, and the regular people are paying the same tax rates that they would have otherwise been paying, except the city would have been fiscally healthy enough to NOT raise regular people's tax rates in the future, which is not the case now.
Jace Edwards
Had to look it up and make sure I wasn't lying to you, here you go.

AOC and all the other socialists in NYC really shit the bed on this deal IMO.
Leo Sanders
Did you make this video? Nice work user. I like your style.
Juan Miller
>makes a 360 and naruto dashes away
Jose Price
>Giving them an allowance costs us nothing.
It costs whatever city is going to be forced to give tax breaks that they wouldn't otherwise have to give. They wouldn't give a normal small business a handout like this.
>It’s a rhetorical sleight of hand that doesn’t pass muster with any expert Gotham Gazette spoke to. “I mean, that's just fundamentally wrong because essentially all economists left, right, wherever agree that a tax abatement or tax credit is a form of expenditure by government and is rightly called a subsidy,”
>the cash is very much real. “It's clearly a case where it's a budget choice [Cuomo's] making, here's $500 million in taxpayer resources we're going to give to Amazon rather than use it for something else,” Parrott said.
I still feel justified in my position
Austin Young
How stupid r u retards that u think she did it?
Aaron Mitchell
Wasn't the New York City mayor or NY Gov bitching about a tax short fall recently? 27 billion would have helped. lol.
No! No! We don't want jobs and our real estate to go up pretty much overnight! lol
Nicholas Butler
As I've previously stated, amazon gets more tax breaks because that's outweighed by their would be contribution--which we don't get to access if they're not here. I can't tell if you're being purposefully obtuse about this, but i'm not sure what it is about this that you find unacceptable?
You also have no addressed the fact that attracting corporations' tax revenue makes this a fiscally healthy city. Fiscally healthy cities do not need to raise tax rates on the middle class. A lack on our part to attract business will add more weight to the shoulders of regular people in the long run.
Ryder Allen
>It costs whatever city is going to be forced to give tax breaks that they wouldn't otherwise have to give.
jesus you're retarded
The tax incentive costs New York Tax Payers 0(zero) dollars to give
The long term tax benefits for the city are in the billions, far exceeding the money not taxed(that would not be there at all to be taxed now and in the future without the initial tax incentive)
Alexander Jones
They would have had to give up $3 billion in taxes, but then gained an estimated $27 billion over the next three decades.
Now they're giving up $0 billion in taxes, but are also gaining $0 billion in extra taxes.
Like I said, if I lived in LIC and was looking at higher rents and cost of living, I think I'd have some legitimate gripes. But I don't see how anyone can spin this as anything other than a loss for NYC as a whole and the state.
Josiah Williams

Nyc user here. This city is run by total retards. I'm only laughing because cuomo lost a ton of tax revenue this year and now he can't make it up easily with this investment. He fucked this city up with $15/min wage. Now his chickens are coming home to roost.
Jackson Ross
Nothing ventured nothing gained. You don't always win when speculating.
Andrew Anderson
If cities just refused to give corporations these handouts/exclusive tax cuts then the billionaires like Bezos wouldn't be able to skirt taxation like this. We need something that prevents cities from giving handouts to these monopolist corporations. Amazon would still have to put up an HQ somewhere it would just have to be based on infrastructure rather than what are effectively bribes.
Dylan James
>You think the government should be giving billions to corporations?
Fucking commies. Apparently not stealing billions is the same as giving billions. You all think that everything everyone else has is yours don't you?
Mason Cruz
It's not a bribe because it's nothing specific to Amazon. They're tax credits available to any business willing to invest the money in NYC that Amazon was.
I don't see the problem with cities and states competing with each other for business. Competition is a good thing.
Daniel Thomas
Also include the fact that most of the people on long island and other rich areas cant write off more than 10k of property taxes. Bunch of rich people left. New york lost 2B in revenue. NY is going to have to lower their property taxes to make sure people stay in the state.
Oliver Bailey
