If everyone is always 1000 bucks richer, rent goes up, prices on food and commodities go up, housing prices go up until it's like no one is any richer at all. Of course that'll take a few years; in the meantime there are plenty of ways to live comfortably off of 1000 a month. I lived off of 650 from my part time job mowing and maintaining things in the trailer park I lived in in Florida. 250 for lot fees, 50 for electricity in the summer, down to 20 for electricity in fall and winter, I had more than enough to feed myself the rest of the month AND buy cocaine, liquor, weed and cigarettes; sometimes other drugs could be budgeted in but keep in mind, 650 was my sole income, no food stamps or welfare or anything. Worst that'd happen is I might spend too much on liquor and coke and have to hit the churches for free food. I had no incentive or desire to improve my lot in life until I moved away and got a different job where I did the polar opposite, worked every hour I could and asked for more and didnt blow all my money on drugs. But I could have done the same thing here if I wanted to; if you can live like white trash royalty in Florida on 650 you can make it most anywhere on 1000.
Until the inflation kicks in and you're back to square one and then you may as well not have ubi. So maybe as a temporary stimulus it could work, but not as a long term institution.
