Everyone else is less selfish and vote for a mix of things that benefit them and what they think will benefit society. So governments have to pander to the boomers or lose that entire bloc of votes, whereas they don't have to pander to anyone else in the same way. Because of that we've ended up with this horribly skewed system where one age demographic steals the floorboards out from under everyone else, and politicians can't change it without being turfed out.
