How do you develop a hobby?

How do you develop a hobby?

My psychologist said it’s not good for my mental health to be on social media for 12-20 hours per day, and that I should try doing something else, but every time I try picking something up, I can force myself to do it for like 15-20 minutes, an hour tops, before I give up and go back online.

How long do you have to force yourself to do something before it becomes fun?

Discipline or amphetamines

Money can be a good motivator; some hobbies can be a source of income. Are you handy? Make something others will buy. I make tube amplifiers as a hobby...

How long does it take?

Being away from the computer always feels like a punishment, I don’t know how to continuously punish myself trying to insist that it will inevitably start feeling like a life worth living.

I already failed in making art as a career.

What can you make with next to no tools where the materials don’t cost much, and people will want and buy?

You don't get money at the very beginning, he needs discipline and/or Jesus

How do you get discipline?

Tis the season... make ironic Christmas decorations, set up a table somewhere.

Effort will shorten the period dramatically, go to the gym, don't eat anything sweet, don't sit around. Try for a week and you'll feel that you can actually do something with your life

Effort can be mental but it's harder to avoid doing physical things imo

People don’t buy shit around here. I’ve had a flea market table up for 3 months at the town and when nobody bought anything - I was pricing shit like 50 cents apiece, 1 euro for a book that was 24 when I bought it - I just threw everything in the trash.

I can’t afford a gym and I don’t eat sugar.

What would you suggest instead of sitting around?

When given a choise between immidiate reward and a bigger reward in the future you have to chose the last one. You can recognise when you're doing things right when it hurts your soul. Do it enough times and it's not painfull anymore but you have a nice life, poof

>no gym
Running and street workout
>what instead of sitting
Anything that takes more effort than sitting. For example: standing, walking, jogging, running, swimming, dancing but not jerking off

Sounds good in theory, doesn’t work. Every time I try to force myself, I just come to the conclusion that death is preferable to this and end up researching suicide methods.

By the time I once again come to the conclusion that I really do not have the means or access to the means to do it efficiently, I’ve already calmed down and given up.

>People don’t buy shit
So don’t try selling shit...

In many forms of vernacular english, ”shit” can refer to items of any quality, dumbcunt.

Then you're not low enough, right now you are the strongest you'll ever be if you stay in this spiral, so every moment that you're not turning things around makes it more difficult for you in the future. Try for 14 days, see how you feel, if you don't see the difference you can always kill yourself

bro the great thing is it can be literally ANYTHING and it may develop over many years.. you may not realise you like DIY until you move house and then you're always doing it, and you become good.

You may discover you actually love dogs after looking after your friends while they're on vacation.

It may happen to be cars and working on cars once you realise how addictive the thrill of speed is..

You will develop overtime but don't force anything

I’m not sure what part you don’t understand.

Every time I try to study, I either end up browsing the internet on my phone, doing whatever form of self-harm that feels sufficient to make the pain go away, or decide to kill myself and start looking up methods.

My point is you based your idea of a bad market on trying to sell an old book...

Make and sell something people would buy that’s not shitty.

I like speeding in the dark with my lights low and music blasting, but I don’t have the gas money or indifference to environment, law and other peoples’ lives to be doing that constantly.

I literally failed at selling art for a living. My very very best that I was hoping to make rent money wasn’t good enough.

>pick something that sounds fun
>do it
>if it's not fun return to step 1
What are they teaching you retards in school nowadays? This shouldn't be difficult

it's difficult when nothing sounds fun
or when you force yourself to do a hobby and feel nothing/ hate it

I already tried that. It turns out nothing is fun and I can’t think of anything that could be fun that would be legal.

yeah..dont do that

You deserve feeling bad, because you're not evolving and challanging yourself, you're lower than I thought, listen to your phychologist, you might not care enough about your life because you forgot how good can you feel naturally, make a challanging enough routine and stick to it.

Seems you’re happy being unhappy.

More shallow pleasure will only make yourself more miserable

I'll bet $1000 you tried two things, failed at your first try like everyone does, and then cried yourself to sleep because you're not an instant celebrity from your talent

If wracking my brain trying to memorise shit that just won’t stick and feeling so fucking overwhelmed that I want to die isn’t challenging enough, I’m curious to hear what would be.

Things I’ve failed at:
1. Writing a book (10 years)
2. Being an artist (5 years)
3. Becoming an electrician (6 months, ended up in a mental ward as a result)
4. Working at a factory (1 year, several suicide attempts, one at the workplace)
5. Becoming a nurse (1 year, got kicked out for being so anxious and stressed all the time I was endangering patients)
6. Studying to a STEM career (4 months, failing currently)

Intense exercise every day, eating properly, meditating

Wait what?? How old you are?

Writing
>used to like it,, stopped caring about it entirely, doing it just bores me nowadays
Art
>always hated art class with a burning passion. Force myself to draw for like 2 hours straight one day, 3 hours the next, 30 minutes the next, slowly start to hate it , take a multiple month break, repeat
Sports
>always hated them, literally only played them because my friends would
coding
>dont enjoy it but dont hate it. wouldn't mind doing it as a job but have 0 desire to do projects for fun

24. Went back to studying high school level classes because I didn’t take biology or chemistry or any real subjects the first time around.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha
You are so me, life is harsh buddy, the only thing that would help you is running for an hour every day

I think I understand your psychologist's intent.
Pick hobbies that are social or get you away from social media. Preferably both.
Some examples are: team sports, board game meetups, gym, concerts, hiking, rock climbing, hunting, etc.

I'm serious, you just need more exercise, that will balance your brain given enough time, also you are pretentious as fuck when you don't have any success to back it up, just like me ;)

What social hobbies can you do for 8-12 hours every day that don’t cost money and aren’t done outside?

Sucking off guys in bars

I’m in a monogamous relationship.

It can actually bring you money so you can't complain

When you got together and how?

1. The town doesn’t have a gay bar.

2. If you’re asking how I’m in a relationship, he’s got social anxiety and won’t go outside to be social. For as long as I don’t beat him, I guess I’m good enough as far as he cares.

Your question was 'how so I force myself to do sometging before it gets fun'
Don't have much time, I get you mostly, I hope. Do you have a telegram or skype or signal or smth?

Only those first two are hobbies

Those are things I’ve tried to do with my life.

Yes but assuming you’re OP, you were bitching about hobbies, not potential careers. You shouldn’t count on jobs to make you happy.

What purpose does a man have if not work?

try a bunch of different things until you find something that clicks
i recommend trying:
horticulture
vidya
music making
recreational firearms discharge in safe, controlled environments
kayaking
cycling
various sports
rock climbing
poker

Doing other shit that's more fun than work.

Nothing is fun.

Which ones of those can you do in a city, in a country with a real winter and proper gun laws?

>on social media for 12-20 hours per day
How do you earn a living?

I’m currently enrolled in a school, taking high school level classes and spending my savings on rent.

There are no countries with proper gun laws. International waters, maybe.

I should have specified: I’m from one of those countries where they don’t just sell guns at fucking wal-mart to mentally ill young men.

60 posts, bud
I dunno if you want an answer besides 'you really do just have to nut up' but, you know
you really do just have to nut up

That must suck.

I would be dead by now if I wasn’t.

grow weed, smoke it
grow shrooms, eat them
ride a bike, fix a bike
mix music you like
start a film club in your town
start a fashion label

the world ya oyster senpai

That sounds like a personal problem.
