The true nature of the Eastern Front was that Germany had gotten lucky in their West European campaign (Minus the Battle of Britain and trying to push Operation Sealion) when they had prepared for much worse. They took those victories not as strokes of luck, but as proof they had created some kind of super-effective battle strategy. Since they regarded the Soviets as lesser than the British or French, they went into Operation Barbarossa thinking they would have a swift victory using that same strategy. The initial offensive had major results, but bogged down after a few months as the Germans approached Moscow and once the Soviets finished moving their industry further East, the war for Germany was lost. By the end of the war the Soviets were not only majorly outproducing Germany, in some crucial areas they were improvements over Germany (Especially in being able to have a majority of the Army motorized.)
