Jow Forums approved OS and Browsers

What's the Jow Forums approved software combo to stay safe online?

I'm running a Ryzen with Win7, but was thinking about jumping ship to linux as much as I fucking hate trying to do anything in linux. Left SorosFox sometime back.

Suggestions? Preferred linux distro? Halp.

OS - Anteros
Browser - Brave

do you play video games? if you do, you're stuck with windows. if you don't, I would advise you switch to Linux as soon as possible. Choose whatever distro suits your fancy, except Arch, Arch is for faggots. As for browser, Firefox or Opera

Manjaro
Firefox
Youtube-dl
Basc-thread-archiver
Signal sms

TempleOS is all you need.

Install gentoo

ignore anyone suggesting arch, manjaro, antergos, or any arch derivatives in general. the software they ship with is awful, but pseuds like to use them because they *think* they're "minimal" or require skill to use.
debian, fedora unironically, ubuntu minimal, gentoo - these are your best options. don't use duckduckgo, use searx, startpage, or minds instead.
if you like kde use falkon or if you like google chrome just use ungoogled chromium, both will work fine.

I'm running manjaro with cinnamon and using mostly firefox for browsing but today decided I should use more brave because it blocks videos from autoplaying. In tablet I use only brave because it's better in android.

My manjaro has been a little broken lately, nothing serious though. The package manager for example doesn't show new updates so I have to manually check them in command line. Also can't change the login screen background picture. This is weird because I haven't done any changes for a long time.

Purism Librem hardware with librem key/heads running tor browser through pureOS inside of qubes with a spoofed mac address through multiple proxies running off of a hijacked modem from someone who lives at least five miles from your house.

When you create accounts use some information from someone you know well enough to dislike but nothing public where there's a testifiable amount of beef. Share a soda with the person and leave the can on your desk so that if cops ever bust in you can claim that it was the other person using your computer.

Encrypt your hard drives and use steganography for more sensitive files. Have an encrypted drive hidden within your encrypted drive. Keep some random brazzers incest porn in your main encrypted drive. If forced act mad and when forced to give your password, do it and let them find the somewhat embarrassing but legal shit as a decoy. Keep your sensitive stuff within the hidden drive.

Don't use cellphones for anything but daily bullshit. Set up fail safes. Set up an automatic start of bleachbit if someone enters an incorrect password or a specific password that you'd give.

You have to worry about them freezing your hard drives for forensics so set up a small vial of acid on top of your hard drive if the tower moves the vial falls and breaks spilling acid onto the drive.

Don't trust anyone.

I do game, though not much anymore. (((it's))) been having a hard time getting me to play, they're not fun like they used to be. Every now and then a rare one comes along. CS:S= best CS

but why those OS? reasons?

Also, firefox is off the table. Soros is getting foxfellatio now. Opera is a sell out, chrome hack job. Maybe opera 12, but it doesn't work worth a damn anymore.

can you eleaborate more memeflagger? isn't startpage what TOR uses by default? I want to get back into linux, I'm just prone to breaking shit and losing my mind when something breaks and trying to fix it on linux. It's been a while, but it's all over the place to a newbie.

damn user, i really like your style. I'm just switching OS's, but I will keep all this in mind. Been wanting to go full failsafe for a while, just had a lot of life problems to clear up first. Not that I have anything to hide, just nothing I want anyone to see.

For normal shit use a decent vpn like ipvanish, use ublock, and https everywhere. Use the duckduckgo search engine through brave browser. Don't expect anything you do to be failsafe. Ever. Just tailor your precautions to the hostile actor you're protecting yourself from. Some random pajeet looking to scam you? Some random chink or slav trying to steal your pii? Cops? The nsa? Each has levels.

Personally i just don't want a company like google or facebook to target me in any way. To do that just stick with normal shit like tor with obsfucated bridges through something like tails. It's easy to use and pretty reliable, but you still need to protect it at the lowest possible level which is the compromised down at the processor level unless you buy hardware that has neutered the management engine. There are only a couple of companies doing that and you're paying a decent price for the small batch production and research and development.

Yeah, I've had a couple bad updates, like with the recent one my ffmpeg dependencies got fucked and I had to mess with it, besides that it's the best Linux I've used by far

i don't know or care about what tor uses by default because i don't use it. I2P, a VPN, and a private DNS are sufficient for my usecase. in the case of search engines, duckduckgo is owned by a kike who used to run a data aggregation company. this alone should be enough to avoid it. also, it is only partially open source. searx, minds, and startpage are all reliable alternatives to crap like google and ddg.
if you want a distro to start out with that isn't complete trash, consider using the ubuntu minimal install .iso - it allows you to select what software groups you might want to install, and what software groups you might not want to install. that doesn't mean ubuntu isn't bloated, it's just a simple way of getting rid of crap like their default de. actually, you might also want to consider fedora to be a better alternative to ubuntu, because it's the only distro that uses a binary repo and properly integrates systemd (no other distro properly integrates systemd, which is why it's often called a frankenstein.) brave is also a piece of shit and just doesn't work well in comparison to ungoogled chromium (it's chrome browser but free of google botnet), as well as more older reliable alternatives like Falkon browser (KDE) and GNU IceCat. also, steer clear of the arch-reddit cult. arch and its derivatives are complete trash and the default install presents a ton of serious security flaws - like an allyesconfig kernel - but the reddit r/unixporn cult will drill it into your head that it's some kind of savior distro.

You think anything from google is free from google? You think they don't have some of the top talent in the world working day and night how to identify you? For fucks sake, man, they analyze your writing style to pinpoint you. You think anything at all related to google is okay? Avoid anything at all related to google no matter what.

>all botnet google binaries and other telemetry have clearly been removed
>the people who work on ungoogled chromium aren't affiliated with google

quads moron.

i've used fedora with kde and preferred it, but that was versions 4-7. Also liked kubuntu. Mandrake?(Manjaro) was one I have tried years ago. I preferred KDE up until the weird plasma folders desktop shit where you had to make the desktop a folder to have icons on it. I tried quite a few including gentoo(never installed, always received errors that were unknown to gentoo team.) And some distros with XFCE. I will heed your arch cult warnings and will check into systemd/allyesconfig thing. opinion on ungoogled chromium vs palemoon? palemoon is branched off from old FF, probably less of a target

ungoogled chromium is probably your best bet if you need a modern suite capable of jewgle chrome's utility but without its botnet. you should really try to get used to the later versions of kde plasma though as imo it provides the best modern desktop experience. well, cinnamon and XFCE are also fine, but i simply enjoy Plasma's suite. Don't bother with Gentoo unless you're really committed to reading and understanding the handbook, it isn't necessary. (But is definitely worth it if you are interested in becoming a hobbyist, or just want to squeeze efficiency out of your rig.)

also, the menu item you're talking about there doesn't make your desktop a folder, it just controls whether or not you actually want to display either the contents of your ~/Desktop or not. Plasma's settings can be a bit difficult to navigate, as there are so many, but eventually you'll get used to it with a little working knowledge. If you really want a truly secure distro, Gentoo with a hardened kernel is fucking fantastic. But it's going to be a steep learning curve. You should stick with the basics at least for a while, and then try again sometime to create a working install.

Like I said it's been a few years, I just remember their being a partially opaque folder on the desktop if you wanted icons, they've probably changed it by now. So if i wanted to stick with kde or xfce for now, fedora or kubuntu because of the binary repo?

definitely. but i would suggest fedora.

I am using Ubuntu. Anything else is fucked up or not supporting RAID. SystemD sucks

It is possible? I want XP X64

Win 7 is fine. 10 is spyware edition. I can personally confirm win 7 works with coffee and kaby lake as long as you get the right asus board and custom prep your install media with the usb and other drivers first. Intel refuses to make an ahci driver, but it's not needed.

I had an Amiga 600 and A1200 with an accelaration card. Then I got a Pentium III 1GHz and sold the Amigas. I still regret it till this day.

still have my 1200/030 and will start a youtube channel around it
see you there , still have the PIII/733 I got after it as well

yea, msi and asrock have win7 drivers. ryzen works fine. if you're worried don't install the driver to run the built in security decryption chip that governs the cpu. also, do not install ANY telemetry updates. but there are other updates you must have like signatures and what not that or you will have a hard time installing things and having them work. XP64 will have some definite no fixable problems sadly. I miss XP. I was a 2000 fan until XP got its shit together with SP3.

I agree. I'm trying to setup some rigs with something more long term, and windows 10 is somewhere im not going, probably ever. Win7 (I

I hate trying to do anything in Windows. Literally a crippled OS by default. Learn to love command line and you'll learn to love Linux.
