How do Catholics defend the thief on the cross?

The only way for salvation under the old covenant was to uphold the 10 commandments impeccably. Are you trying to argue the thief did this?

God is not bound by the sacraments. He can forgive anyone he pleases, but he's not bound to because your misinterpretation of scripture says so.

The Baptism of Blood is a similar idea, for unbaptized martyrs

What Protestants say always is that faith alone saves you or you are already chosen, but really the only one who is the truth judge is God. He alone has the power to accept or reject someone.

The theif on the cross spoke with Jesus in their final moments together. He was one of the first people to be saved by Christ.

I fucking cried when Jesus forgave him during Passion of the Christ.

the theif on the cross repented before he died thus going to haven because he told jesus and was the only one that saw jesus on his last hours

the theif died for his sins but because he repented he got something no other crimanal would ever get that that is the keys to heaven.

They can`t because Catholics are pagans whether they know it or not.

through faith god works in you using the Holy Spirit. accepting Him leads men to want to be more like Christ and therefore causes them to live a life of repentance. Every man should know he is evil, otherwise he’s only lying to himself.

yeah but Catholics famously believe you need to work your way to heaven, so how did the thief get saved in their view? i've never gotten a coherent answer. mostly they just say God made a massive exception and saved him anyway for fun.

Try to argue that with a hardcore OSAS person and you'll get told that by repenting he was doing a work and therefore he had no faith and wasn't saved.
