We never really had guns. The only people who had handguns and fully automatic weapons were criminals - no-one was using those for hunting. All other weapons are legal in the UK if you have a reason - this includes 5+1 shotguns and semi-auto rifles in any calibre (12 gauge, 338 lapua, whatever) as long as you have the need & reason & safe storage capacity.
