I remember reading an account from an "end of life caregiver" (basically a nurse who only deals with people who are dying). It said that there is a marked and obvious difference between dying people with children and those without. Those who had children were often sedate and accepting of the fact that their life is over. Something about it was all worth it to them. But those who have none are panicked. They don't want to let go. It's traumatic and they suffer.
