I travel to China on business about 6-8 times a year and have visited numerous rural areas. It is an absolute shithole. If I spend two months a year in a China I might actually see sunlight 3-5 days and that is only after a very heavy rain. The rest of the time the entire country is covered in thick smog. After about three days you have the taste of metal in your mouth and your eyes are constantly irritated. Rural Chinese are worked extremely hard and look nothing like OP image. If they’re lucky, they have jobs in the factories that I visit and they get about $500 USD a month to work 6 days a week. They sleep in dorms above the factories and eat every meal at the factory (typically rice and rancid smelling fish). Their days are filled with dirty repetitive tasks in factories that have neither heating nor AC. Pretty much hell. If you don’t have a factory job, you’re left with many shit argricultural options. Horrible place to live.
