i don't know of any country more humiliated than italy in the entire history of human wars. that war is still the reason why italians aren't taken seriously around the world despite their economy isn't worse than than the french one (they have the same NIIP, -15% gdp) or their external debt is lower than germany's (122% vs 145% gdp).
