I don't really have an opinion on this issue but one perspective that might help clarify is I know a person or two that does this at times of grief.

I had a relative that got cancer and when her daughter found out, the daughter burst into laughter. Then they stayed quiet and stoic about it after they calmed down from then on. Some people really don't have the ability to process grief and go all over the map.

2. It's not impossible for someone to act inappropriately if a loved one has died in a horrible way. Some people break down in tears right away, but when I lost my brother in a horrible way it took me three months to cry and I was laughing and joking at the funeral and people thought I was cold, I was in denial and in a sustained state of shock.
