In the olden days, the only women that had ridiculously long hair were those of aristocracy. They didn't have to work in fields, factories, or keep the house in shape. There was no need for them to cut their hair. Basically, all that hair meant "hey, i'm a noble woman!"
It doesn't have anything to do with politics either. I'm pretty fashy myself but I think short hair on girls looks really cute.

It's not true, for example reports on women with the longest hair back in 16th-18th century in Eastern Europe would point at peasants. Them having to work was not a big deal because they would simply braid their hair and put it up.

I will admit, most modern women are pretty shit. However the same can be said about modern man. Look at your average city dwelling dude today. Is he any where near strong both mentally and phsyically as the average urbanite you'd find in the streets 100 years ago? No?
