Has anyone else noticed the gradual normalization of the occult and macabre in our culture over the past century?
Sure it's always been around, but not to the extent that it dominates pop culture.

I've noticed it, but it's hard to care about occult shit as anything other than symbolic when you know it has no effect on anything.
It has even spread to smaller countries. Look up Tommy Lee Sparta and Alkaline for examples.
It's being marketed to women especially. It's occultism lite. I don't really see occultism being sold to men, but I could be wrong.
Majority of accessible occult "magic" is weak at best.
It works if you consent to it user. That's the real trick. The practitioner has to get you to accept what they are doing. That said without appropriate protection you can easily be bamboozled into being influenced.

Every religion has a super-edgy tryhard "dark side" element. Some of them are friendlier to it than others, but there has never been any proof whatsoever that the occult has any kind of effect on reality. Not to put too fine a point on it, but there is documented, scientifically-gathered evidence that praying to the Abrahamic God can positively affect the outcome of things like cancer treatments, while there is zero such evidence that Lucifer/"Satan" or any of his minions has ever had a direct effect on the mortal realm.

Overall I would characterize the rise in "taboo" pop culture material as a symptom of cultural degeneration rather than a cause.
