The real redpill is that gender doesn't exist - it's a construct created by John money in his failed psychology experiment which attempted to raise a boy as a girl after his penis was destroyed during his circumcision.
The boy eventually committed suicide after he and his twin brother alleged numerous counts of sexual assault / pedophilia against dr money. Despite the failure of the experiment, the term he pioneered persists.
Sex is real. Gender was invented specifically to create a way to twist people's sexes against nature and it should be abandoned in shame.

They are not the same. Gender isn't actually "a thing". Sex is only thing that actually exists. "Gender" is just a name created for social role of each gender. It makes as much sense as creating another word, say "Gagjsglkjdsg", which means your social role in relation to your age. So, how do you feel your Gagjsglkjdsg is being expressed here, are you being discriminated against? And no, Gagjsglkjdsg is not same as your age, it's much deeper than that.

In a medical context there’s no reason to distinguish gender and sex. You only need to talk about sex.
In social contexts you discuss gender. They’re concepts for different contexts. But they both exist.
Sex is what you look like while gender is what you think about what you look like. Ask 5 men what being a “man” really is and you’ll get several answers. That’s gender. If any if them say “penis”, that’s sex.
