Because I'm feeling generous and I like talking about my guns I will explain: a PGO (Pistol Grip Only) shotgun has far greater recoil than a shotgun with a buttstock, because you cannot rest it against your shoulder to control it. To counter this, the vertical grip on the pump allows far greater ease of control by shunting the recoil across both hands, particularly into the one holding the foregrip. It may bruise that hand after an hour of shooting, but it makes the most violent 12-gauge loads feel like birdshot. Way easier on the wrists too.
