What does any of that have to do with the phenotype of South Italians? Southern Germans aren't ethnically different from other Germans for the most part and Central-to-Southern Italy used to be heavily colonised by the Greeks before Rome took charge, with Etrurians etc being ethnically close to Celtics and Iberians if anything. As for the Renaissance, it's true that Florence is in the Center, but Venice is very much in the North, and the significance of both to the whole Renaissance would seem to imply a Northward spread and direction.
