Maybe not, my grandma was diagnosed with it as stage 4 and somehow managed to live for nearly three years, with a pretty good quality of life until the last few months. My grandfather had it too though (years earlier), and on the other hand, he was gone within three months of diagnosis and spent it all in a hospital bed. It's basically just the hand you're dealt.

This one kinda hits me, specifically because my grandmother and I used to watch Jeopardy every night when I used to spend summers with her as a teen, some of my best memories with her.

Stage 4 pancreatic cancer means that there are actually cancerous tumors at more than one site (it began in the pancreas). With the pancreas, it likely means that there are tumors also in his liver, cancer in the lymph nodes, and potentially tumors at more distant sites.

At this point, chemotherapy and other treatments are simply meant to buy time, as they are aimed at slowing progression, but this disease is invariably fatal and quickly.

Pancreatic is often found very advanced because the common symptoms are diffuse and vague. You don't have too many nerve endings in the gut, and many gastrointestinal issues present similarly.

Usually, the prognosis is death within a couple months, best case being 6 months to a year. Five year survival is well under 1%.

Even in the healthiest of adults with the most aggressive treatment of STAGE 1 pancreatic cancer, under 33% survival 5 years. It is one of the worst.
