That has to be defined is the issue. I've thought a lot lately about the concept that government operates for its own purposes. It then incentivizes what it lacks and needs, like entrepreneurship and dependency on itself among the masses, and disincentivizes what it doesnt need, like regular middle class wage earners. But is it not "good," in the sense that something could actually be better?

You pretty much said it, government will never operate for the governed. Governments will never do something to improve the lives of the people it controls (do "good") unless doing otherwise begins to threaten their control.

This (gov not doing anything for anyone but themselves) is a result of a ton of stuff, but in the end it always boils down to the decisions of people somewhere. People.

To answer your question, you could be thousands of dollars richer for just a year of YOUR OWN LABOR if the government was really "for the people."

You could have fucked your hot teacher in high school that actually would have come onto you first if the government didn't say she wasn't allowed.

You could build your own mansion from scratch to live in and never pay a dime to anyone but the lumber salesman if the government didn't say "gibs please" when they find out.

These are just tiny examples out of the fucking hundreds of thousands, if not MILLIONS, of things we could do if we lived in a world where a room of millionares who got there by saying "ye" and "nay" on the right things (things to help industry leaders and power hungry fat cats) didn't control us.
