Oh yeah questioning human rights in any way is really poisonous and are something of a religion. This is why I don't usually don't point out that they are simply conventions, but rather point out that there are alternative, officially recognized and ratified, competing notions of human rights. This has the advantage intensifying and exploiting a liberal contradiction, which is a twin commitment to universalism and to diversity and a reverence for other culture. These two things are in tension and these tension should be exploited.
