David Herold and Lewis Powell were sent to kill William Seward, the Secretary of War. Powell was a Confederate raider who later became a spy and used many aliases. Powell’s career would be similar to a shift from DELTA Force to CIA SOG today. The Jesuit educated Herold guided Powell to Seward’s house. Powell bamboozled his way in claiming to have a medicine deliver for the injured Seward. Herold helped him with the story as a Pharmacist. Powell had his revolver malfunction and tried to stab Seward, but was blocked by a cast. Seward had a scar, but survived.
George Atzerodt was sent to kill Vice President Andrew Johnson. Atzerodt was an alcoholic who decided to drink to build up his courage, but soon just decided to drink. Atzerodt was from Anrode, Germany a small town where Catholics outnumber Protestants 2 to 1 today. He never was fluent in English.
Dr. Samuel Mudd introduced Booth to Mary Surratt. Mudd was educated by the Jesuits and was part of a prominent English Catholic family with strong Jesuit ties. Mudd’s role was validated agents for Surratt.

Louis Weichmann was a mole at the War Department. He was a seminary classmate of John Surratt and a boarder. After the conspiracy was rolled up both Weichmann and Lloyd snitched to stay alive.
John Surratt was meeting with Confederate officers during the assassination. He escaped into Canada hidden by priests in Quebec. They smuggled him into Europe where he joined the military of the Papal States.
Every single member of the conspiracy, with the possible exception of Lewis Powell, was a Catholic. Arnold, Mudd, and Herold were all Georgetown (Jesuit) educated. John Surratt and Louis Weichmann both dropped out of a Sulpican seminary. The Sulpicans were a Jesuit front group. Mary Surratt was the owner of a boarding house and local spymaster for Confederate intelligence. Her son, John, was the go-between with the Confederate command and the local cell. The local cell was run out of the Surratt family boarding house.
Why did the Catholic Church do this? Confederate President Jefferson Davis grew up as ‘the only Protestant at a Catholic school’. Davis had a personal correspondence with the Pope at the beginning of the war. During the war the Catholic church did counter-recruitment among European Catholics tempted to immigrate to America as mercenaries for the Union. After the war Davis was imprisoned and the Pope was so moved by his suffering that he gave Davis a crown of thorns.

Even if you give the Catholic Church the benefit of the doubt the Jesuit ties of the key plotters make it impossible the Jesuits would have no clue about the plot. The nature of their intelligence gathering is too deep. At a minimum they let the plot occur with foreknowledge.
5 years after the end of the Civil War the Papal States were dissolved by the unification campaign of Freemason Garibaldi. There appears to be a broader reactionary purpose to supporting the Confederacy against the forces of international Liberalism which was anti-clerical (often Jewish and/or Freemason backed). The Catholic empires of Spain and Portugal were both torn asunder by Masonic revolutions before and after the civil war.
What about the Jews? In fairness John Wilkes Booth was an ethnic Jew who later converted to Catholicism. His father Junius Booth was an observant Jew who studied the Talmud, spoke Hebrew, and attended Synagogue. Considering Booth was estranged from his father, who preferred his son Edwin, I think that this tie is less important than it seems.
However Abraham Lincoln was extremely closely tied to Jewish interests. Lincoln and the Jews by Sarna and Shapell (both Jews) documents his numerous senior appointments, pardons, and other personal relationships. Lincoln even interceded against Ulysses Grant’s efforts to deport Jews from Tennessee. There were many fewer Jews in the US prior to the 1880s so this overrepresentation is particularly notable. Given the broader context of the war and Lincoln’s personal relationship with Jews it is more probable he was party to a Jewish conspiracy than a victim of one.
