We can do our best to research the material of everything we purchase (for some this might seem like a lot of work, but if it does it probably means you buy too much stuff). And instead we can opt for natural and quality fibres and containers we can use and reuse for a long time. Reduce your waste and impact.
However, this microplastic is rampant in our oceans and many many other areas (including some of our foods). If you eat wild fish, they're no doubt contaminated. Research where your local water comes from. Some of us have it pretty okay and might get water from a relatively fresh source. If not, there are alternatives like collecting rainwater.
But I think the first bit should cut down on your exposure by a good amount.
Additionally, you must be weary of prolonged contact with plastic that has been heated by the sun or any other heat source (such as heating food in a plastic container in the microwave). The chemicals used in production leak out of the plastic.
Of course this is a lot to think about so you won't avoid it fully, but simply taking some measures works wonders.

The difference is that the US is becoming over-developed due to terrible urban planning and its suburban sprawl. This sprawl leads to an artificial life and the destruction of land. At the very least outside of major European cities, you can find comfy towns and villages built for people and not cars. You don't need two buildings with four lots; one to serve as housing and one as business (due to terrible zoning laws) with two as mandatory parking lots (if you want to avoid state fines). Because multifunction is not a foreign concept to Europeans who will make the most of one building and take cars as a secondary thought.
Additionally when roads are built into the US, wildlife habitats are divided and destroyed without consideration to nature. At least in Europe they build fences and crossings for animals.

Tandem junction panels that pass 30% conversion efficiency outside of a lab will be a game changer. Thats only one pillar of what should be a stable environmentally conscious society.
