India has completely banned the import of solid plastic waste into the country, leaving the United States with one less major recycling outlet after China, amid the ongoing trade war, stopped importing all foreign trash last year. “The country has now completely prohibited the import of solid plastic waste by amending the Hazardous Waste (Management & Trans-boundary Movement) Rules on March 1,” an environment ministry official said this week.

i mean, its probably a net poisitive. recycling was always a shit program. the reason you have the "plastic island" in the pacific is that china used to just dump whatever was of low enough quality into the river. Its more expensive than cutting down trees or pulling the stuff out of the ground and when you have to ship it to china, process it manually and back to use it, im not sure how much it really helps with the "carbon footprint" its a legitimately bad program, just put it in a landfill.
