The politics behind this decision goes way back. It’s tough to confirm exactly what happened with 100% certainty. Any rational person these days knows that alcohol and many other legal drugs can kill you but weed cannot. I think most people would vote yes to legalize if there was a vote on it even the more conservative states would probably just legalize it. I’d say a lot of making it illegal came from former prohibition officers like one big one was named anslinger. Then there was a lot of lobbyists from oil companies, cotton industry and paper industry that didn’t like the potential competition they would get from hemp. Also the refeer madness movie and a lot of people who brought weed up to the states were blacks and Mexicans and the jazz groups would smoke weed and jigaboo around and white people didn’t like that. So weed became a controversial plant. Now that it’s been illegal for so long we haven’t been able to reap the benefits of such a useful crop. Great for food, medicine, housing insulation, paper production, rope, fuel, etc... but we have to use corn for ethanol and trees for paper and cotton/synthetic shit for clothing. And the research to the medical benefits of weed is very limited as well. I’m by no means liberal, or green, or a pothead. But something just isn’t right with history here. Seems like the government is limiting our rights rather than serving us when it comes to weed.
