The future of Canada will basically be to serve as a buffer between the US and China. We're firmly in the US camp now, but with the rise of China's economic influence and their wealthy expat population in Canada, the balance will shift eastward. Not completely though, as geography makes it unlikely that China could ever achieve the same sort of economic closeness we have with the states, and also those wealthy expats see us as a tax haven. No point moving your money to Canada if the party can still wring it out. China has its sights on bigger fish anyway with the BRI. I think that, similar to how Hong Kong is a mix of British and Chinese culture, so will we become a bizarre mix of Chinese and American culture.

Maybe it won't be so bad? If we could help broker a peace between the US and China maybe that would be positive. The Chinese have been talking about a polar silk road of ports along the NW passage, and we're actually building a lot of ports up north right now as the arctic ice melts. This could bring in a lot of wealth to the country. I know that's unlikely, but we can always hope for the best.
