He's well known for doing these multi hundred million dollar cases and Sandman is currently suing the Huffington Post for $250 million which is approximately the entire value of the company. So if he wins it will be the death of HuffPo.

Minors are a super protected class in the eyes of the law. Tik Tok copped a multimillion dollar fine for just collecting basic information from kids. Multiple news organizations ran a poorly informed defamation campaign with the sole purpose of destroying these kids lives.

The lawyer is taking it with the guarantee of a share of the money CNN has to pay. Since they are likely to win, high profile lawyers take it.

With big companies, this is the best decision. Especially if you have a prima facie case and know you'll likely win at trial. If you go for a "realistic" amount, they'll settle immediately to avoid any negative fallout and they continue on being scum.

Any lawyer worth his salt would jump at this case and charge a percentage of the settlement. Given the nature of the case and the potential amount of damages on offer, high profile major firms would be queuing up.

MSM did what they do best and lied now they're going to get reamed up the ass for it. I interact with lawyers a good bit as part of my job and have gotten chummy with a few of them. All of them whom are aware of the situation say those kids have a very good chance of getting a nice chunk of change.

The difficulty is going to be that the kids must show economic damage to their reputations. How can a kid show that? They might be able to get money for security costs but none of them have professions that were ruined. Hypothetical losses in their future careers will be very difficult to prove.
